It has finally happened, after years of waiting I can finally play Age of Mythology. There's no doubt that Ensemble is a great developer, their Age of Empires series has long been one of my favorites, not just in the real-time strategy genre, but for gaming in general.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing the original AoE - it was fresh, innovative and a joy to play - not too frenetic, but not too laid back either. With AoE II I seemed to lose my way - seen it all, read the book, got the T shirt etc, so much that I couldn't be bothered to buy the bolt ons as it was all...

Age of Mythology is the heir to the Age of Empires series of games.  The game features a new 3D engine and a host of new unit types and gameplay tweaks, but at its heart it is very much like its predecessors.  This is not necessarily a bad thing, though, as it continues the series' tradition of...

The Age of Kings series also gets an update in the latest installment, Age of Mythology. Bruce Shelley and company have created a wonderful strategy game that melds three distinct strains of mythology. Featuring a new 3D engine, you can check out the battles in an array of views.

ups: Great evolution of Age of Kings gameplay; mythological deities fighting each other; new 3D engine allows for nice viewing; really fun

downs: Continuity between battles is spotty in campaign mode; cutscenes are rendered at low polygon count; not really breaking any new ground here

Ensemble Studios has long since made a name for itself with its extremely popular Age of Empires series of real-time strategy games, so the company's latest game, Age of Mythology, seems risky.

PROUD TO BE A GAMER Age of Mythology from Ensemble Studios is a rare example of a game that makes me very proud to be a gamer. I have spent the better part of a week finishing the very powerful and immersing 35 scenario campaign included in this strategy game.

I can hear the cries already "Jeesh, not yet ANOTHER RTS with a twist!" But wait until you have tried this new offering from Microsoft Games and Ensemble Studios before ye judge to harshly. Anyone remember that old classic – Populous?

By now, Age of Mythology, developed by Ensemble Studios, needs no introduction. You've read the previews, you've watched the movies, and you've ogled at the screenshots. Now, the time has come; the final release is installed and has been played.
