JBL Link Music Review

The $119.95 Link Music is JBL's smallest, most affordable smart speaker. With support for AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Chromecast, and Google Assistant voice commands, it offers no shortage of features. Sonically, you can expect surprisingly high volume levels for its size, with rich bass and a decent balance between lows and highs. That said, this is ultimately a mono speaker with a single driver, so if you’re in search of booming bass, you'll have to spend a bit more.Design Measuring 5.3 by 4.4 inches (HW), the cylindrical Link Music weighs in at 1.6 pounds and is available in light or dark gray models. The outer panel of the speaker is covered in cloth grille, and the top panel houses pinhole mics for Google Assistant control, as well as plus/minus buttons for volume control and a central Google Assistant button for controlling playback and alarms/timers. Holding the button down for two seconds activates Google Assistant if you don't want to use voice commands.  The speaker’s back pan...

The JBL Link Music smart speaker delivers the convenience of hands-free Google Assistant controls, along with robust audio for its compact size.

Solid audio performance with rich bass and decent balance between lows and highs; Can get quite loud for its size; Supports hands-free Google Assistant control; Compatible with AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and Chromecast

Lean too heavily toward low-mids; Mono; No onboard playback controls

JBL Link Speaker Review

The JBL Link Music BT Speaker has great volume now that I have been able to pair and connect it with my laptop. There was no instruction manual with it, and the model has been superseded, which meant that assistance with pairing and connection from the Internet was not helpful. I finally discovered that I had to download a JBL Connection app in order to pair and connect it, and I had to get a friend with greater technical knowledge to assist me to do this. However, now that it is connected and paired, I am impressed with the surround sound that the speaker provides. I would recommend this product to a friend, but would advise them that they may require assistance in pairing and connecting the speaker, especially if they are wanting to pair it to a Windows-based laptop.

Awesome speaker

I was skeptical about buying this speaker. In spite of all the negative reviews regarding the setup of the speaker I decided to purchase it from HN. WiFi Set up was straight forward and easy through the Google Home app. However there was little information available on connecting the speaker as a bluetooth speaker and I had to do some research and accidentally found the way to connect it as a bluetooth device . Following are the steps. 01: Setup the JBL speaker and connect it to Wifi and enable Google assistance. 02: Once setup say "Ok Google" and wait for the prompt . The say "Enable Bluetooth" 03:Then again say "Ok Google" followed by "Pair Bluetooth" and the speaker will give you the instructions. Sound of the speaker is really great for the price. I should thank HN friendly staff at McGrath Hills who helped me to select the best speaker for my money

Awesome little speaker!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the Link Music for almost a week now, and it's awesome! I put it on a shelf in my home office. I really love the minimal design, it works well there because I like to keep it uncluttered in there. However, don't be fooled by the small size, this thing gets pretty loud! It has a nice full sound, which you really wouldn't expect when you see it. Also, I don't use voice assistance too much in general, but I gotta say, it's pretty handy to be able to control the music so quickly and easily. Sometimes I'm working and have my hands full in there, and it's nice to be able to quickly pause the music or change the song.

Poor design for start up connection

My wife and I were recently gifted these speaker for X-mas from my mother. the set-up for bluetooth is ridiculous as you need to the google home app for the speakers to somehow work for connection (which did not work for either of us) and need home WiFi connection to make the speakers finish with the set-up connection. why I cannot directly connect the speakers to my phone with bluetooth is a basic design flaw for me as bluetooth was originally invented to connect without needing a internet connection or unnecessary additional app downloads. my wife and I are in the process to give these speakers back for a refund as this model has been over complicated in design for what should of been, a very straightforward set-up.

It’s a good basic player

This WiFi device meets my needs. I didn’t want to spring for another Google Max for my bedroom, and the Google mini that I have sounded too weak. This device is a nice compromise. I placed it on my night stand and listen at night as I drift off to sleep. I never play it too loud and it has enough bass to please me at lower decibels. I noticed that it sounds better across the room at higher decibels but that’s not what I bought to do. The Google Assistant is not up to par compared to my Google devices and it cannot do the things a pure Google device can such as setting a sleep timer for me. It claims that it is still learning when I ask it things that it can’t answer. As long as you have reasonable expectations you will probably be ok with it.
